South County Adult Day Services, operated by Age Well Senior Services, is a licensed health care facility providing both day care and health care services to frail older adults or persons with disabilities. Therapeutic and recreational activities together with health care and social services are provided in a safe, homelike setting where participants spend the day and enjoy nutritious meals. Care recipients thoroughly enjoy their time and social opportunities at the Center, and their days away from home provide essential respite to elder spouses, family or others providing primary care. Delano Association for the Developmentally Disabled is a private non-profit corporation whose purpose is to help people affected by developmental disabilities be as self reliant and fulfilled as possible. DADD does this by delivering services that offer people opportunities to grow and develop in many ways. DADD has successfully partnered with Kern County Superintendent of Schools District to serve many infants and toddlers from the northern Kern County communities of Buttonwillow, Lost Hills, Delano and all points between. The Delano and Wasco based centers provide activities in warm, nurturing environments by caring professionals to facilitate development in areas including: educational instruction, speech and language development and therapy, occupational and physical therapy, vision and hearing development, socialization, cognition, gross motor, fine motor, self-help, parent training, as well as family services and support. These programs also employ unique and effective therapeutic methods for infants and toddlers whose physical ability to sit, stand or walk is compromised. |

We started supporting people with developmental disabilities in 1992, with a small group of people who were discharged from a state institution as part of a downsizing effort in Washington State. To many, this group of people was considered a test case on the validity of community supports. Half of this group consisted of people with significant medical needs, while the other half consisted of people with significant behavioral support needs. Many professionals at the institution predicted failure within the first three months. Now, years later, those same people continue to live and work in the community. Presently, Ambitions provides supports to more than 350 people with developmental disabilities in Washington, California, and Idaho. We are always seeking new and innovative ways to support people, but really, we find the most success in just letting people direct their own lives. |
