THE ANGEL HOUSE 860 SOUTH JOHNSON AVENUE EL CAJON CA 92020 (619) 357-7627 |
As the owner of a Visiting Angels franchise in El Cajon, I have personally experienced poor care at costly facilities for my husband who at the age of 57 had suffered from early onset dementia. Since then my passion has been to find every alternative to provide the elderly with a safe and caring non-stressful atmosphere to enjoy their golden years. Now as the proud owner of the Angel House Adult Day Care Center, we can provide a “home-away from home†for your loved ones who are looking for a fun place to socialize and maintain a sense of independence. My mother is a wonderful example of this at age 85. With the loss of my father and not too long after experiencing 2 strokes, her recovery has been remarkable. Unable to drive and yet looking for stimulating conversation and social interaction, she loves the Angel House with its gardening, bocce court and activities. I see her anxious to keep engaged with others and she tells me it keeps her mind active and the interaction helps with her verbal skills. What a blessing! I have a Visiting Angel caregiver in the morning who takes her grocery shopping, doctors appointments, etc. and then in the afternoon drives her to the Angel House where mom is excited to meet with her group of friends. I am so proud that we are able to offer yet another service and experience for our Senior population! |

SOPHIE'S ART GALLERY 109 REA STREET EL CAJON CA 92020 (619) 593-2205 |
In the 1970s, SMSC expanded its curriculum to offer its first art classes. With these first classes, an untapped wealth of talent was revealed. Many students who had not been able to express themselves through traditional means were sharing their once hidden feelings through vibrant, original works of art on canvas, wood, glass and other media. The program became so popular that it outgrew the available space. In 1999, with generous community support, the art program moved to a storefront in Downtown El Cajon and was named Sophie’s Gallery and Gift Shop. In 2007, we expanded the original storefront space to 4,400 square feet that allowed us to serve more students and add more classes. Every week, our students are taught a variety of media, such as print-making, jewelry-making, painting, charcoal, pastels, fabric arts, and more. All of the classes at Sophie’s Gallery are taught by professional artists – our art program was the first in our region to offer this enhanced benefit. |
