Specialized Health Services Inc., a non-profit, private agency, was established in 1985 at the request of North Los Angeles Regional Center. At that time there were no day programs available to meet the needs of individuals with both developmental disabilities and mental illness, and today, VISTAS are still the only local, non-profit, non-hospital based day programs that specialize in serving the needs of adults with a dual diagnosis. The agency currently operates three licensed day treatment programs, vendored as behavior management programs, and one adult residential facility. The VISTAS Granada Hills program opened its doors in January 2008. The Granada Hills program was relocated from the original site that opened in Panorama city in 1985, having been there for almost 23 years. Consumers at VISTAS Granada Hills vary greatly in cognitive functioning abilities. Some individuals are capable of riding the MTA independently, while others need substantial support. Many people served carry the diagnosis of Autism. Some individuals we support have mental illnesses and others have significant emotional and behavioral challenges. At times, we are able to support individuals with severe vision and hearing deficits. |
