Social Vocational Services, Inc. (SVS) was founded in 1977 as a small after school program for teenagers with autism in Manhattan Beach. In the 35 years since its establishment, SVS has grown to serve over 4000 individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities throughout California. We offer a wide variety of services to meet the needs and interests of a diverse population. Although large in scope with our 75 locations, each individual SVS program site has its own distinctive ambience. This allows each facility the opportunity to customize its activities to the interests and talents of the individuals it serves and to make use of the resources available in its community. As SVS continues to grow, we always welcome comments and suggestions about our programs and how we might better serve our consumers and the community around us. Day Training Activity Center: Project Independence: Licensed by the State of California Community Care Licensing Division and vendored by North Los Angeles County Regional Center, Project Independence, Desert Haven’s much anticipated, state-of-the art Day Training Activity Center opened in May 2007. The purpose of the program is to assist participants to maximize their capabilities in the areas of daily living skills, self-advocacy, interpersonal and social skills, vocational skills, community integration, and personal and public safety in order that they might gain greater self-determination and increased independence. Participants in the program have opportunity to participate in a variety of center-based and community-based training modalities designed to assist in the acquisition of functional skills and increased independence and, as appropriate, to facilitate transition into less restrictive programming, up to and including vocational training/job placement. |
