In 1998, Southport Presbyterian Church opened their adult day service ministry. Through the years this ministry faithfully served those seeking safety, companionship and engagement in the community. Many are no longer able to stay at home alone safely due to basic aging or a variety of diagnoses. Joy’s House Adult Day Service seamlessly assumed operations of Southport Adult Day Center on July 1, 2014 and continued to serve the established community of Guests and their caregivers is a vital part of the Joy’s House mission. Now Joy’s House at UIndy has a new location just south of the University of Indianapolis campus and is welcoming new families. |

Our HAFriends Day Program teaches and enhances participants’ social skills. In a respectful and appropriate environment, HAFriends promotes interaction, learning, and fun! HAFriends also offers a needed respite for caregivers. Upon arrival each day, participants are encouraged to help the staff plan the day ahead by choosing specific activities they wish to enjoy. Furthermore, each participant is assigned a task that they will be responsible for during the day. Typical tasks include; preparation of lunch, lunch set up, general clean-up, gardening, and more. New this year, once a participant masters a task, they will be encouraged to train another participant on that task! Before and after lunch, clients participate in a variety of activities including social studies discussions, art, music, exercise, and much more! Each day, we fill the seats on our bus and venture into the community to enjoy a local treasure (i.e. exercise facilities, parks, museums, restaurants, etc.) or to volunteer (Westminster Neighborhood Ministries, Meals on Wheels, collection/recycling of printer cartridges, etc.). HAFriends also enjoy delivering handmade thank you notes and gifts to many of our corporate donors. |

Elder Alternative Adult Day Service is the destination of choice for caregivers seeking a caring, stimulating, structured, and safe environment to send their loved ones during the day. Center staff partner with primary caregivers to serve the need of adults challenged with a variety of conditions and limitations. Elder Alternative offers a win/win situation for everyone in the family not only the participant, but also for the family member who has primary responsibility as caregiver. The program provides a much-needed respite for the caregiver, affording a break from the physical demands, and stress of providing round-the-clock care. Adults 18 years or older, or those with health impairments that limit their involvement in daily activities are eligible to enroll in this service. A full-time on-site registered nurse monitors individual’s health and medications while at the Center. The Center makes this service affordable to everyone by providing a private pay sliding fee scale and accept Medicaid Waiver, Veteran’s Administration, CHOICE and have scholarship funding is available. |
