Respite Rock Adult Care Program 479 Van Voorhis Road Morgantown WV 26505 (304) 599-6306 |
Respite Rock Adult Day Care Programs can be a great resource for Caregivers but many refuse to consider this option. Some worry that their loved ones will resent participating in such a program, while others feel guilty at the thought of leaving their loved ones in another person's care. When it works correctly, however, Adult DayCare Programs can improve the care recipient's overall behavior and provide the caregiver with much-needed time off. Generally, a care recipient can benefit from Adult Day Care because: It allows him or her to stay in his or her community. It gives him or her a break from the caregiver. It provides needed social interaction. It provides greater structure to his or her daily activities. The average cost of an Adult Day Center is $64.00 per day (as of 2008), but here at Suncrest United Methodist Church we charge $25.00 per Wednesday or $100.00 per month from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. paid up front in the church office. We offer scholarships here at Suncrest. On the other hand. programs that offer extensive care or additional specialized services often cost a bit more. Regardless, the "Respite Rock" Adult Care Program is less expensive than hiring a home health nurse or moving a loved one to a nursing facility. This program is to relieve the caregiver for six hours so that he/she can get some rest, go shopping, or do whatever they need to do in that time period. We know that you want to be able to care for your loved one as long as they need you and taking care of yourself will allow you to do so. |

Adult Daycare Program of the Raleigh County Commission on Aging 1614 South Kanawha Street Beckley WV 25801 (304) 255-1397 |
The Adult Daycare Program of the Raleigh County Commission on Aging is designed to assist seniors who are still fairly independent, but need assistance and/or supervision due to physical limitations or cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease or other types of dementia. The program not only provides a safe, friendly atmosphere for the seniors who attend the program, but it also offers their caregiver respite, or a break from providing care to their loved ones. This can allow caregivers to maintain other responsibilities, such as employments, family obligations, or to simply be able to take the time they may need for themselves. The Adult Daycare Program is open Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM and is conveniently located inside the Raleigh County Senior Center in Beckley. The program offers: Morning and afternoon snacks; A hot lunch with 1/3 of the recommended daily allowance of nutritional value; Assistance based on individual care needs, such as feeding, toileting, and transferring. The program is ideal for seniors who live alone or are isolated. It not only provides the assistance needed for seniors to avoid unnecessary placement into skilled facility care, but also offers them the opportunity to form new relationships with others who share similar backgrounds and experiences. Families can use the services of the program as much or as little as they need. Because caregivers are only billed for the services they use, there are no upfront costs or fees, and they do not have to pre-purchase any services they many not need or use. Lunch, snacks, and activities are provided at no additional costs. Transportation in the greater Beckley area can also be scheduled at no additional cost. For seniors who live in Raleigh County and have a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia, financial assistance is available through the Raleigh County Commission on Aging's FAIR and Respite programs. |

Our caregivers are trained in CPR, First Aid, OSHO regulations, housebound caregiving skills, and Alzheimer's and dementia care. Family members and friends are also offered training, counseling, support, and referral services upon request. Our clients include adults both with Alzheimer's disease or other related dementias who need only minimal physical assistance and who would benefit from socialization and stimulating activities to enrich their lives. The KVSS Caregiver Day Program's small group setting allows for increased interaction between staff and participants with emphasis on stimulating the whole person: cognitively, physically, spiritually, and socially. All programming is designed to help maintain cognitive abilities, memory enhancement and life enrichment. Programming is based on the Best Friends Approach where clients and staff share meals, music, exercise, dance, laughter, reminiscence, socialization and community service projects. Friends that attend, "Our Place" Adult Day Center experience days full of smiles and laughter while engaging in lifelong interests along with opportunities to experience new activities. Families also tell us that their loved ones look forward to being with their friends at the center. Family members have told us that our Adult Day Program does much more than help the caregiver and provide respite. They have reported that their loved ones seem happier, exhibit fewer troublesome behaviors, sleep through the night more frequently, and report feeling more useful by helping with community service projects and being involved in volunteer opportunities. |
