Kanawha Valley Senior Services, Inc. - "Our Place" Adult Day Center 600 Florida Street, 1st Floor Charleston WV 25302 (304) 345-6755 |
Family Caregiver Program has group respite services that give relief to unpaid caregivers, whether family member or friends. Caregivers can drop their loved ones off at the KVSS "Our Place" Adult Day Center and run errands, go to work, or simply get rest. The best part is that caregivers have the peace of mind knowing their loved one is in a safe, social, stimulating, and supervised environment. "Our Place" Adult Day Center is conveniently located on the first floor of the Tiskelwah Senior Center, located at 600 Florida Street on Charleston's West Side. The Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5:30 pm and local transportation is available and tours of the center can be arranged. Respite services are available for those who need only minimal physical assistance. Days and hours are determined on an individual basis depending on the need and availability of hours of the program and staff. Most of the costs of group respite services are paid for through the Older American's Act and the state Family Alzheimer's In-Home Respite (FAIR) program. Our caregivers are trained in CPR, First Aid, OSHO regulations, housebound caregiving skills, and Alzheimer's and dementia care. Family members and friends are also offered training, counseling, support, and referral services upon request. Our clients include adults both with Alzheimer's disease or other related dementias who need only minimal physical assistance and who would benefit from socialization and stimulating activities to enrich their lives. The KVSS Caregiver Day Program's small group setting allows for increased interaction between staff and participants with emphasis on stimulating the whole person: cognitively, physically, spiritually, and socially. All programming is designed to help maintain cognitive abilities, memory enhancement and life enrichment. Programming is based on the Best Friends Approach where clients and staff share meals, music, exercise, dance, laughter, reminiscence, socialization and community service projects. Friends that attend, "Our Place" Adult Day Center experience days full of smiles and laughter while engaging in lifelong interests along with opportunities to experience new activities. Families also tell us that their loved ones look forward to being with their friends at the center. Family members have told us that our Adult Day Program does much more than help the caregiver and provide respite. They have reported that their loved ones seem happier, exhibit fewer troublesome behaviors, sleep through the night more frequently, and report feeling more useful by helping with community service projects and being involved in volunteer opportunities. |
