The Adult Day Services Program at Levindale is designed to give our most physically frail seniors a space for socializing while benefiting from a highly individualized regimen of rehab and medication therapy. These services, which can help seniors avoid going into long-term care while allowing their caregivers and families to go to their jobs or simply enjoy some breathing room, were the first of their kind in the state. Adult day services are specially geared toward seniors with complex medical needs such as diabetes, hypertension and post-stroke disabilities, and those with health problems such as dementia, confusion and Alzheimer’s disease. The hallmarks of the program are a strong emphasis on nursing care and recreational therapy. Our well-trained activity specialists lead participants in arts and crafts, music, cooking classes, exercise sessions, movies, discussion groups, live entertainment and trips into the community. Not only does this stimulate the mind and spirit, it also gives participants a chance to forge new friendships. Our skilled nursing staff supervises medications, monitors participants’ health status, and ensures that any aspects of a participant’s outside treatment program are adhered to. Nursing assistants are also able to perform other essential tasks, such as bathing and toileting, when needed. The program’s position within LifeBridge Health means that participants can access additional medical support from nearby Sinai and Northwest hospitals. We know that our participants’ families and regular caregivers want their loved ones to have the richest experiences possible, which is why our handicapped-equipped transport shuttles are available to take participants to outpatient service programs and to field trips within the community.
