Details: Adult day services programs are community based and designed to meet the needs of functionally impaired adults through individualized plans of care. They are usually structured, comprehensive programs that provide a variety of health, social and related services in a protective setting during daytime hours. They do not offer 24-hour care. It primarily serves residents of East Lansing and the tri-county area (Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties). ALFA has two primary goals directed toward enrichment of the lives of participants and their families: 1) to enhance and/or maintain the functioning level (physical, social, emotional and cognitive) of participants on an individual basis in accordance with the orders from attending physician; and 2) to provide respite for family/caregivers. ALFA is a program for individuals 18 years of age and older who have physical, mental, emotional or social limitations and who require assistance and supervision in daily living. Disabilities might include such conditions as strokes, heart problems, orthopedic problems, severe vision and hearing losses and early to middle states of Dementia/Alzheimer's. Mobility may range from unassisted walking to requiring use of a wheelchair. ALFA’s staff are prepared to assist individuals who need occasional or limited help with various phases of the program, including eating, walking and use of the bathroom. Specialized therapies (physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy) are weighed on an individual basis and may be carried out on site by a qualified therapist under the direction of the participant’s attending physician (i.e. visiting nurses) if appropriate to ALFA’s program and in keeping with ALFA’s policies governing quality assurance. All medication, including over-the-counter drugs, must be medically prescribed and taken under direct supervision of our registered nurse.
