VISTAS DAY TREATMENT CENTER
Website: http://www.shsvistas.org/
Ownership Type: NON-PROFIT
Specialty Programs Available: RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES, VOLUNTEER WORK, MAKING COFFEE, DISHWASHING, SWEEPING, GARDENING, COUNSELING
Details: Specialized Health Services Inc., a non-profit, private agency, was established in 1985 at the request of North Los Angeles Regional Center. At that time there were no day programs available to meet the needs of individuals with both developmental disabilities and mental illness, and today, VISTAS are still the only local, non-profit, non-hospital based day programs that specialize in serving the needs of adults with a dual diagnosis. The agency currently operates three licensed day treatment programs, vendored as behavior management programs, and one adult residential facility. VISTAS Hawthorne first opened its doors in 1988 in Inglewood. Due to limitations at that facility, VISTAS chose to relocate in August 2000, to the city of Hawthorne. Unfortunately, in 2005, the Hawthorne site was damaged by a fire and forced to relocate to another location in Hawthorne. The program now resides at the Church of the Nazarene, 4500 W. El Segundo Blvd., just east of Ramona St. This program supports individuals with developmental disabilities who may also have behavioral or psychiatric challenges. The age range is from the early twenties to our most senior consumer, at age sixty.
