Website: http://www.arc-sj.org/
Ownership Type: NON-PROFIT
Details: The Arc San Joaquin provides services to over 215 persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities residing in Stockton, Tracy, Manteca, Lodi and surrounding areas. Founded in 1954 by parents of children with special needs, Arc SJ has a rich history of community, educational, legislative, and family collaborations that has made Arc become what it is today. Services include employment services, adult day services and recreation. The type and length of service depends on the needs of each individual. In every situation, the service plan is driven by the individual. As an organization with a history of serving persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities for more than 58 years, our goal is to help individuals live in the community and to the fullest extent, live a happy life and to thrive. The Arc San Joaquin adult day programs create an adult-learning environment where persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities learn and use adult living skills throughout the day. Activities are adapted to more easily learn and put into practice right away at the program, home and community. Adapted employment activities include collating, mail management, paper shredding, card making, and newsletter development and publication. Volunteer sites are selected by client interest and ability to participate. Activities include dog walking at a local shelter, making dog blankets, toys and biscuits to donate to non-profit dog and cat foster families, and helping keep parks clean as part of the Mayor’s volunteer initiative, Volunteers in Service to Aid Stockton (VISTAS).
