Website: http://www.climb-inc.com/
Specialty Programs Available: ADULT RESIDENTIAL HOMES, NURSING SERVICES, SUPPORTED LIVING SERVICES, INDEPENDENT LIVING SERVICES
Details: CLIMB (Center for Living Independence for the Multi-handicapped Blind) was founded in 1977 to provide housing to intellectually disabled and blind adults who were in need of residential services and care in a community setting. The acronym CLIMB was developed from the Webster Dictionary definition “to move up or ascend, especially by using the hands and feet.†There were four criteria for residential housing that needed to be met when the center opened: a supportive and friendly community, affordable housing, access to nearby public transportation, and opportunities for work and community integration for residents. The first facility in Sierra Madre was acquired and converted to a licensed adult residential facility with a capacity for forty adults. Nineteen residents initially began to live at the facility on July 1, 1977. Since then, CLIMB has grown and evolved over the years to offer many different types of residential and support service programs to individuals with varying needs. Our programs are licensed by the Department of Social Services and Department of Public Health. Residential programs are vendored by the Eastern Los Angeles and San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Centers.
