The Daily Living Center, a component of the John T. O’Connor Senior Center, is a licensed adult day care program with the mission of providing community-based services to Knox County residents age 60 or older who are in need of a structured program that will develop or improve daily living skills, foster independence through social interaction, and allow the individual to remain in the community rather than be institutionalized. The program is directed toward senior adults with low incomes or who are receiving Adult Protective Services from the Tennessee Department of Human Services. Income eligibility and fee structure are established by the Tennessee Department of Human Services Social Service Block Grant guidelines. |

Samaritan Place, now in its 13th year of providing shelter and support for very-low income seniors, is one of 12 or fewer such programs in the United States. Samaritan Place is, in fact, the nation’s only program offering a complete continuum of care, from emergency to long-term housing, for this population. Seniors come to the program through traditional homeless shelters, hospitals, Adult Protective Services and other community resources. Basic eligibility criteria are: age 55 and older; not a threat to self or others; ambulatory; and able to manage most daily activities with minimal assistance. |
