Christiana Care's Adult Day Program provides a safe, caring home away from home for seniors or other individuals who may be limited due to age or illness. When you or a loved one cannot be home alone during the day, we offer expert medical care in a relaxed, stimulating environment, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Leisure and learning opportunities at our program include card games, trips to interesting places, music and crafts, social lunches and more. For family members who care for loved ones, our Adult Day Care Program provides time to recharge, maintain a career or just accomplish the tasks of daily life with some extra support.

You're not alone. According to the National Family Caregivers Association, more than one quarter of the adult population has provided care to a family member or friend during the past year. Adult Day Care Services address the medical and social needs of individuals who experience the effects of aging and/or the impact of a physical disability. Easter Seals provides choices when a loved one needs assistance with daily living, and does not prefer full-time nursing home care. Easter Seals provides a safe group environment with coordinated health and social services. Like all Easter Seal services, the adult day care services are comprehensive and individualized to meet each client's needs, family-focused to meet each family member's concerns, outcome-oriented with a goal of enhanced independence, and use public support in a cost-effective manner. The adult day care program offers a break for family caregivers responsible for a relative who is unable to function independently, but does not require 24-hour nursing care. Participants in the program may have: a physical disability, a mental impairment, a need for special assistance with activities of daily living or have recently returned from a hospital visit. Easter Seals provides a safe group environment with coordinated health and social services. Center-based care may prevent, postpone, or reduce the use of a nursing facility. It may also make it possible for someone to return to a loving home from a nursing facility. Easter Seals programs provide medical supervision and health-related services on a daily basis. Nursing staff administers medications and monitors a variety of medical conditions. Most often, therapy services (occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy) are available.

Christiana Care VNA provides a wide variety of services throughout the community, including home care, private-duty services and adult day care. Daily care is available at the Evergreen Alzheimer's Day Center Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Daily care allows caregivers to enjoy some needed time off with the assurance that their loved one is in the good hands of trained VNA professionals. Our staff includes a music and recreational therapist who provide activities, crafts and games that help to maximize function, promote independence, reduce stress and build self-confidence. Morning snacks, lunch and afternoon snacks provide a nutritionally balanced diet and a time for sharing and socializing. Personal care and grooming help to promote a sense of well-being while reinforcing self-care. Our program director, a registered nurse, provides caregivers with helpful hints and strategies for managing patients while at home. A diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia is a prerequisite for admission to the Evergreen Center. Fees are based on a sliding scale according to household income.

Gull House is a structured and supervised Adult Care program designed for functionally impaired persons who are 18 years of age or older. The primary goals are to avoid or forestall institutional placement; to support or improve social, mental, emotional, and physical levels of functioning; to enhance the quality of life; and to provide respite to family caregivers. Located in Rehoboth Beach, Gull House opened in the spring of 1987 in response to the community's need for an intermediate care facility to bridge the gap between 24-hour home care and nursing home care. Its services are a vital part of the continuum of care for the elderly, providing a healthful atmosphere and reassurance and support to their families.

New Horizon Adult Day Center offers day programming and personal care services in a safe, homelike environment for individuals 18 years of age and older who have physical or cognitive impairments and who require ongoing supervision and support. The program affords participants an opportunity for socialization, while providing family members with respite from their ongoing caregiving responsibilities. The program features activities which are designed to help participants improve or maintain daily functioning. In addition, snacks and lunch are provided.
