Where can you find a place for respite care for a loved one who needs personal attention? One place is located right on the Bigfork Valley campus. Adult Day Stay is a program offering a place to come and socialize, receive personal care, allow caregivers respite time or enjoy some weekly events. Once at Day Stay, participants can look forward to two snacks and a full luncheon, and a schedule that is flexible depending on what the group may like to do. Once a month, for instance, a day in Grand Rapids is scheduled for shopping and lunch. Day trips have also been taken to the Scenic State Park, the casino in Deer River, and places like local farms that have interesting animals. There are events at Bigfork Valley as well, both special events like the Winter Lovers Festival and regular events like bingo. A United Way recipient, the program also does fund raisers to help defray costs of special outings and other expenses. A number of queen size quilts have been put together. Sometimes the hall is filled with fragrant smells from a baking project, and in the past dollhouses have been crafted. Need a card for that special person or holiday? One ongoing project is recycling greeting cards. Stop by the Day Stay room and see the selection! Amid all this activity, though, there is plenty of time to relax. In fact, Day Stay staff feel it is important to make sure participants are able to do what they want, whether it is to have their weekly medications set up through home care nursing, watch a favorite television show, or go on an outing. If we feel like we want to go to Effie for pie, said Laurel Laudert, activities director, ...we go! There is a daily fee for participation in Adult Day Stay, but there are also a number of programs to help defray this cost.
