In little more than a year, the new facility appropriately named "Trösten Haus" (comfort house in German) was providing innovative services, filling the needs of the aging individuals with brain trauma, Alzheimer's, and dementia-related diagnoses. Families and caregivers were thrilled to have an alternative to nursing home care. Trösten Haus provides a place for caregivers to leave loved ones for respite; whether that means an hour to run errands or an afternoon to take care of their own needs. Trösten Haus and similar facilities have proven to postpone the need for nursing home care for those with dementia by an average of 18 months. Trösten Haus daily programming activities are intended to appeal to a wide degree of interests. Physical needs are also addressed including fine and gross motor skills.
