The Club... it's not your typical Adult Day Care Center. We don't think in those terms, and we don't like to use Day Care for Adults. You'll see why. Crabbing in the Navesink. Betting at the track. Eating peanuts at a Blue Claws game. Playing the slots in Atlantic City. Bowling at Brunswick Lanes. Picnicking in the park. These just aren't the things you'd expect to be happening at an adult medical day care center. Well, the overall philosophy of The Club at Kensington Court is that we think our clients should be treated with dignity, respect AND as adults. For most people, their golden years can be celebrated in more ways than pasting dried macaroni on a cut down Quaker Oats box to make some ersatz objet d'art. It's hard to imagine a more enjoyable way for area seniors to spend a pleasurable day than by interacting with their peers at The Club in a wide range of physically, socially and mentally stimulating activities. The majority of those who attend adult day care centers have some level of cognitive deficit or early dementia. However, since The Club is located within the campus of an assisted living community, Kensington Court, it has a multitude of resources unavailable to a typical adult day care center. Things like the presence of additional professional nurses and other health care givers should an emergency arise, or the ability for its clients to participate in an enhanced activities and entertainment program offered to Residents at Kensington Court. But there's more to The Club than the social and cultural advantages. Clients have their medications administered and managed by a Registered Nurse, vital signs monitored, access to on-site physical and occupational therapies as well as dentistry and podiatry services. Daily transportation to and from participants' homes is provided for Club members, and of course both a hearty breakfast and well-balanced lunch are included. No adult day care center including The Club can stop the natural progression of aging, or the ravages of Alzheimer's or other equally debilitating diseases, but at The Club, senior participants enjoy socialization and a good quality of life. When our participants head for the bus in the afternoon they are happy and exhausted... and that's how we measure our success.
