The Life Enrichment Center at Oyster Bay - Day Break Adult Day Care 61 E. Main Street Oyster Bay NY 11771 (516) 558-7211 |
This program was established in 1999 and is dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable, therapeutic services to functionally impaired older adults in a social day-care environment. We offer mind-stimulating activities to the frail and elderly senior who needs assurance and assistance. Several activities are planned each day to encourage the member to interact with others. Some of the stimulating activities include discussions, games, arts and crafts and intergenerational activities. Exercise such as tai chi, yoga and strength training as well as active games that build stronger bones and improve balance and coordination have also been incorporated into the program. Music and laughter continually fill the room creating a cheerful environment. With gentle encouragement, our goal is to nurture lost confidence to the senior who is facing physical and mental challenges and to help them live life as fully as possible. A registered nurse visits the Program weekly to conduct blood pressure screenings and answer general medical questions. In addition, a balanced and nutritious lunch and snack is provided during the day. The Life Enrichment Center at Oyster Bay employs a Licensed Social Worker (LMSW) who is available for consultation three days per week by appointment. She offers extensive social service assistance to residents who come to the Center directly or are referred by other agencies. In addition, the Day Break coordinator holds bi-monthly caregiver support meetings throughout the year. Another very important dynamic this program offers is it serves as a respite to the caregivers of elderly parents or family members who need special attention. It enables the caregiver to have some time of their own, and have peace of mind, knowing that their loved one is in good and capable hands. The ratio of staff to senior member is 1 to 4. In addition, the Day Break coordinator holds bi-monthly caregiver support meetings throughout the year. |
