In 1993, a group of concerned parents worked together to form a small organization in Denton County to provide support and care to adults with special needs, including seniors with early stages of Alzheimer’s/Dementia. One of the primary outcomes was to provide much needed respite care for families of individuals with special needs so that they could continue on with their daily lives while maintaining the family unit. The organization began as “Adult Day Care of North Texasâ€, located in Denton, and later became “Day Stay for Adults.†The organization began and continues that status today, as a registered 501 (c) 3 charitable nonprofit. In 2010 the organization continued its growth and opened a second campus in Lewisville. In 2011 we established a new and expanded mission, and introduced a new logo. In 2012 the organization officially changed its name to “Special Abilities of North Texas†to better reflect the population we serve and our mission. |
