Services for Adults with Disabilities at the Gibbs Center for Independence. Day Habilitation -- Creating Greater Independence in the Community. UCP Heartland offers individuals with developmental disabilities services to improve their quality of life, increase employability and prevent premature institutionalization. Adult Habilitation provides personal care for young adults with developmental disabilities, ages 18 years or older, who wish to acquire and maintain life skills that enable them to become and remain independent, contributing members of their community. Program activities assist each participant with acquisition, retention and improvement of self-help, socialization, vocational and leisure skills that foster a greater level of independence. All services are specifically designed to contribute to enhanced independence, skills, and overall well-being and represent a low-cost alternative to long-term care or institutional placement. Adult day habilitation includes: 1. Access to the basic health, social, and supportive services required during the weekday.; 2. Improvements in their activities of daily living skills.; 3. Family caregivers receiving respite from caring for their loved one allowing them to remain employed or just a much needed break.; 4. Individualized community experiences that promote learning through real-life experiences.; 5. Participant to staff ratio of 1:4 in the community and 1:6 in the facility.; 6. Hands on learning and stimulation in our Sensory Room. This program is a great choice for individuals with developmental disabilities who want to stay active and involved in their community, someone who was unsuccessful in maintaining employment or who made the choice to not seek employment but they still want to learn.
