The mission of Allegheny Valley School is to provide quality programs and facilities to help the individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities entrusted to our care to live with purpose and dignity, and to provide opportunities and choices for our clients to grow and function at their full potential as independently as possible. The Adult Training Program offers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities an opportunity to enhance their capacity to achieve. Services at our Adult Training Program are designed to promote various therapeutic programs, pre-vocational, vocational and independent living skills. The program is individualized and concentrates on cognitive, communication and physical development, and environmental and sensory awareness. Employment opportunities are promoted as well. A unique feature of the Adult Training Program is the opportunity to partner with local businesses to help them increase their productivity and profit levels by employing our clients. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities have the same needs as anyone else for participating in meaningful work activities and experiencing a sense of accomplishment. Having a job and earning a paycheck helps to develop a sense of identity and dignity. |

Special events, holiday celebrations and a variety of supervised community-based activities address each person's current interests, provide exposure to new and different recreational and leisure activities and facilitate the development of interpersonal relationships. |
