Volunteers of America Western Washington Meaningful Day Program
2802 Broadway
Everett WA 98201
(425) 259-3191
The Meaningful Day Program is available for adults with developmental disabilities Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Our schedule changes day to day to accommodate those who can only come 1-2 days per week. Our mission to create our Meaningful Day Program is to empower a higher quality of life for those who live with intellectual disabilities. Studies show that those who stay active throughout their life, even after retirement tend to be healthier; those who socialize more often tend to be happier than those who don't. This is why our Meaningful Day Program is absolutely vital to the intellectually disabled population. Employment for disabled adults can be hard to find and unstable. Our program provides activities to stimulate minds and stay active. About 70% of disabled adults are unemployed, with little hope of becoming employed, but it is still important to build skills. This is why it's so important to have alternative day activities, in addition to the typical 4-12 hour work week for this population. Social skills are something we continuously learn throughout our life, but without the opportunity to do so it can be a hard skill to foster. Statistically those who do any form of art, whether it's coloring, painting, or sculpting have lower blood pressure than those who don't. All of this effort is to avoid isolation, which can be detrimental to individual growth and development. After having the Meaningful Day Program open for 2 years we have seen tremendous personal growth among our clients, as well as behavioral issues subsiding. Scholarships available upon request.

Skagit Adult Day Program - Gentry House
1208 7th Street
Anacortes WA 98221
(360) 755-1235
Dementia is a brain disease that affects one of of five families in drastic and devastating ways. Left with few choices, the caregiver, often a spouse or adult child, must take over the exhausting task of tending to the needs of someone whose brain is dying. Skagit Adult Day Program offers a unique combination of support for the caregiver and a supervised day program where special needs adults can participate in a supportive group setting amongst peers. Before our program began, caregivers had two options: Keep their loved ones home as long as possible with the help of family, friends and paid home nursing care, or, permanent placement in a full-care facility. SADP offers a third option: One that provides respite and support to the caregiver which enables them to keep their loved one at home longer, sometimes until the final days of their life. We charge an hourly rate of $12.50 for our day program, $5.00 for a home cooked lunch and $30.00 for a private bathing session. Clients can attend for as many hours a day and as many days a week as their family chooses. The Gentry House, named after Executive Director Nancy Gentry, is located at 1208 7th Street in Anacortes across from Causland park. Its home-like setting offers a special charm. Due to its smaller size, the program offers a unique client experience: staff cook fresh home-made meals daily and children from a nearby Montessori school visit weekly.
