CHAPS (Community Habilitation And Pre-vocational Services) is a structured day program where adults learn community and pre-vocational skills. Many individuals attend this program to better prepare for our community employment service. The CHAPS curriculum includes modules teaching math/money skills, proper hygiene, social skills, safety and effective communication. Participants can attend full or part time.

As a subsidiary of The Arc of Mercer County, we provide unparalleled opportunities in employment, vocational training, housing, family living, older adult care, transitioning, habilitation aid, and recreation activities. All of our services emphasize choice, safety, and respect. In addition to these services, we also offer free advocacy assistance and resources through The Arc of Mercer County, special needs planning information and referrals through The Arc of Mercer County Foundation, and a social group for young adults with high-functioning autism. The Arc of Mercer County also administers Fun in the Sun, a summer camp for school-age children with special needs.

Mercer County Area Agency on Aging, Inc.'s Adult Day Care Program is a State-licensed program and operates in conjunction with the Shenango Valley Senior Community Center, under the supervision of Agency nursing staff and activity aides. Through the Adult Day Care Program, the Agency strives to improve the quality of life for individuals with functional impairments who are enrolled in the program. The program provides an alternative to institutionalization as it promotes and supports the individual's abilities to function within the community by offering day services in a safe setting to older adults with disabilities. The program also provides respite for the individual's caregivers. Participants in the Adult Day Care Program are given an individual assessment and a program plan is developed to maximize his/her capabilities. Services will vary according to each individual's program plan.
